STELLAAAAA!!!

So last night I watched A Streetcar Named Desire for the first time. Wanted to know what all the Marlon Brando fuss was about!?! He was extremely dashing... but this scene cracked me up! I'd heard so much about it, but actually watching it- AMAZING haha!

It's all about Rita!

For some reason over the last week, 2 Rita's that have popped up & caught my attention in a big way!

First is the wacky and wonderful Rita Ackermann. Hungarian-American artist & fashionista. I've always dug her personal style & her work is inspiring!
Second was the classic Rita (played by Julie Walters) from the movie Educating Rita. She's a brash working class hairdresser seeking an education from an alcoholic professor (played by Michael Caine). Can't believe I'd never watched it!! Best line:
"Christ! My customer! She only come in for a demi-wave, she's gonna leave looking like a flippin' muppet!" CLASSIC!

Flashbacks of a Fool

Watched Flashbacks of a Fool the other night... check out this scene! Beautiful cinematography & super acting (Felicity Jones=amazing!). But the song was what really won me over. Need to work on my Roxy Music collection...

Been watching the series True Blood... it's quite intense! The opening credits are pretty confronting, but well done I think. Really eerie cultural depiction of the American South. The imagery, typeface & music are pretty amazing!

OMFG!!

Photographer hailing from Minnesota Jennifer Tzar is an awesome talent to say the least! With 8 years in the industry, to say her client list is impressive would be an understatement! http://jennifertzar.com

Home grown

Check out rising star Aussie artist Bec Winnel @ her temporary blog site http://mycharliegirl.blogspot.com

Janis, Patti & PJ were robbed...

While I really enjoyed the Triple J Hottest 100 of all time over the weekend, I was flabbergastered that rock legends Janis Joplin, Patti Smith & PJ Harvey ALL didn't get a gurnsey :( Hack did a story this afternoon discussing the lack of female presence in the countdown & I found it really interesting. There are so many awesome female artists spanning all eras of music, let's start to give them the credit they deserve- starting right here! Tribute.

Aurel Schmidt WOW!

I've been tracking this lady for a while now. Her drawing skills are out of control! This work is from her 'Maneater' series. Here's her site: http://tinyvices.com
Her personal style is as excellent as her artwork :)

Style Icon of the week...

Musician slash dj slash model slash hipster slash janitor!?! Lissy Trullie has got her shit together. What can I say, look her up.

Out to Lunch.

Rumored to have stolen the lunches of her fellow artist/muso friends back in the day, Lydia lunch is a true bad-ass. Lead vocals of 'Teenage Jesus & The Jerks', she was a major influence on the No Wave music movement that happened in the mid 70s in NYC. Later in life her solo efforts led her to working with legends like Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore & Nick Cave. Props! & fierce style to boot...

Desperately Seeking...

One of Vans latest masterpieces! The Rat trap is set :P

Navajo Stylin

Recently I've stumbled on a few amazing images influenced by Native American culture. The colours & graphic patterns definitely brightened up a sultry day in Perth :) Can't wait for summer!

Store of the week...

On recent travels I have been inspired to share some of my fave hot spots. Surface To Air in Paris is incredible! Head to 68 Rue Charlot in the Marais area, Paris to feast your eyes on not only the product but the sweet fitout...

Finally back on the blog...

It's been on the cards for a good few weeks now, so here we go with the first installment of stuff that's caught this Rat's eye lately :)
